Oevaru Submissions Guidelines

Oevaru 2026 welcomes submissions from clinicians, researchers, students, public health specialists, policymakers, community stakeholders, and people with lived experiences of mental health conditions. This conference is a platform to share research findings, practice-based insights, and visionary ideas to elevate mental health discourse and strengthen systems of care across the Maldives.

The theme for Oevaru 2026, 'Delving Deep, Weaving Connections,' calls us to engage with the biological, psychological, social, and systemic layers of mental health. It emphasizes the importance of connection within communities, across disciplines, and among institutions. We invite submissions that resonate with this theme and its sub-themes.

CONFERENCE SUBMISSIONS

Submissions are invited under two distinct tracks: the Scientific Stream and the Oevaru Salla Stream

1. Scientific Stream: Traditional abstract submissions

This track welcomes traditional abstracts based on original research, program evaluations, case studies, or practice-based innovations. We encourage submissions that represent original work, which  has not been previously presented or published.. For questions about eligibility, please contact Scientific Committee at abstract@oevaruconference.mv.

Abstracts should not exceed 350 words (excluding title, authors, and conflict of interest declaration). Authors may indicate a preference for oral or poster presentation, though final allocations may differ. Where applicable approval from the National Research Council (NHRC) Ethics Committee should be sought early, as this process may take time.

Abstract submission template is available for download below. Authors are encouraged to use this template when preparing their submissions.

Full paper submissions: We encourage authors to pursue a full paper submission for their abstracts as this is likely to facilitate future publication. We are in discussion with institutions to create pathways for both national and international publications. Assistance in preparing abstracts and full papers will be offered through our information sessions and special writing workshops. We are planning to introduce a Best Paper Award, which will be presented during the conference

2. Oevaru Salla Stream: Salla pitch submissions

The Oevaru Salla stream is designed to showcase innovative and scalable ideas to transform mental health in the Maldivian context. Inspired by global public innovation models, it welcomes proposals that explore intersections of technology, community, culture, and emerging challenges such as climate resilience.

Interdisciplinary teams (2–5 members, including at least one with mental health training/experience) are invited to make submissions.

Submissions require:

  • A short Salla Concept Note (≤350 words, issue + idea + impact, with 3–5 keywords)
  • A 2-minute Teaser Video (spoken, visual, animated, dramatized, or phone-recorded).

The Salla concept note should be a brief paragraph of no more than 250 words, describing the issue, the proposed idea, and its intended impact. Authors are also asked to include 3–5 relevant keywords. A template is provided to guide formatting, and we encourage authors to use it during the submission process.

Submissions should also respect cultural sensitivities and social norms, ensuring content remains appropriate
